What It Costs to Build a Pool in Temecula

Temecula sits in an interesting spot for pool pricing. You get California’s labor costs and permitting requirements, but lot sizes here tend to be larger than coastal San Diego, which opens up design options that tighter urban lots don’t allow.

Most homeowners in the Temecula area budget somewhere from $60,000 to $250,000+ for a custom inground pool.

Pool Type Typical Cost Range Timeline (Dig to Swim Day)
Shotcrete (Concrete) $60,000 to $250,000+ 2 to 3 months
Fiberglass $75,000 to $150,000+ 3 to 8 weeks

Where you land in that range also depends on:

Pool Types We Build in Temecula

Both pool types work in this climate. The right call depends on your lot and what you’re trying to build.

Shotcrete (Concrete)

On larger Temecula Valley lots, shotcrete tends to be the better fit. The extra acreage means there’s room to design something ambitious, like a pool that wraps around an outdoor kitchen, steps with the natural grade of the land, or incorporates a vineyard or hillside view into the layout. Shotcrete adapts to whatever the property gives you.

It takes 2 to 3 months from breaking ground, give or take. Unlike most markets, shotcrete actually costs less upfront than fiberglass here, mainly because fiberglass shells require shipping and crane installation. With proper care, it lasts 50 or more years, which matters in a market where larger properties tend to hold their value over long ownership periods.

Fiberglass

On smaller, flatter lots, particularly in some of the newer developments around Murrieta and parts of Temecula proper, fiberglass is the more practical choice. It installs in one piece, though it typically runs $15,000 to $25,000 more than shotcrete in this market, mostly due to shipping and crane costs to get the shell in place. Some projects wrap up in 3 to 8 weeks, and the smooth surface needs less ongoing chemical maintenance.

Temecula’s inland heat in summer means evaporation runs high, similar to what you’d see further east. Lower chemical demand is a real advantage here. The trade-off is that you’re working within available shapes rather than designing from the ground up.

One thing we don’t build: vinyl liner pools. They’re not suited to the luxury market, and given the cost of labor and materials in California, the long-term economics don’t work out in vinyl’s favor anyway.

Our Pool Installation Process

Here’s the process from first conversation to first swim.

For a full breakdown of every phase, see our Inground Pool Installation Process guide.

Pool Installation Timeline

These timelines run from breaking ground to first swim. Permitting is separate.

Temecula’s inland climate means hot, dry summers and mild winters, with no real freeze season. Construction continues through most of the year, though peak summer heat can affect crew scheduling on certain phases just as it would in any hot inland market.

Permitting is the bigger variable here. Depending on whether your property falls under the City of Temecula or unincorporated Riverside County, review timelines can shift meaningfully. Properties requiring additional grading or drainage review tend to take longer.

The practical advice is the same as in most of our California markets: start earlier than you think you need to, especially if you’re hoping to be swimming by a specific date.

We’ll give you a realistic timeline during your consultation, not a best-case estimate.

We recently had our pool and spa remodeled by Premier Pools of Murrieta. We selected Premier because they offered a solid reputation and a complete project service. We would like to specifically thank Jon and Craig from Premier and Jose, a private contractor who completed the tile, stone and concrete work. There was excellent communication during the entire project and we were always informed when workers were coming and when each stage of the project would be started and completed. They consistently checked with us to ensure we were satisfied with the work and were flexible when we requested minor changes. The pool turned out beautifully and we highly recommend Premier Pools and Spa.

I would highly recommend Premier Pools to anyone looking to have a pool installed. I got 5 estimates prior to picking Premier, not only were they less expensive than others but for us them being a large company made us feel like they will be around in the future if we ever have problems. We did encounter issues along the way which we expected no matter who would of done the pool. The difference to us was, they fixed all the issues and gave us what we wanted and expected in the beginning when we sat down and designed our back yard, even things that were unforseen and unavoidable, they came up with a plan and fixed them and at no additional cost.
We love our pool and look forward to enjoying it for years to come!

We had an amazing experience from start to finish with our pool and spa build. The entire team was professional, knowledgeable, and attentive to every detail. Jake took the time to explain each step of the process, answered all of our questions, and made sure we felt comfortable and informed throughout the project.
The workmanship was excellent, and the final result exceeded our expectations. The pool was completed on schedule, the area was left clean, and everything was done with great care and precision. Their communication was consistent, and they truly went above and beyond to make sure we were happy.
We are extremely pleased with our new pool and highly recommend this company to anyone looking for quality work, reliability, and outstanding customer service. Thank you for making our backyard dream come true!

Premier Pools did an amazing job on our pool. The project manager kept us in the loop the entire time, and we never had any scheduling issues. Jake, our sales rep, was extremely accommodating to our budget without sacrificing style. The pricing was flexible, the work was completed on time, and they even built us a fireplace within our budget. The final result came out great. Highly recommend Premier Pools.

FAQs

Yes. Pool construction in California requires a building permit regardless of where your property sits. In Temecula, permitting runs through the City of Temecula’s Building and Safety Division for properties within city limits. Outside the city, it depends on location. Most of our territory falls under Riverside County, but areas like Fallbrook and Bonsall fall under San Diego County instead. We handle all of it as part of the project.

Plan for 2 to 6 weeks in most cases, though it varies by jurisdiction. Some cities approve in under a week, while others can take 4 weeks or more depending on the complexity of the project. Properties in unincorporated Riverside County or San Diego County, or those requiring grading and drainage review tend to take longer than straightforward in-city projects. We build realistic buffer time into every schedule and will tell you what to expect for your specific address.

It varies a lot across the service area. Some neighborhoods sit on flat lots. Others, particularly in parts of Murrieta, have real slope and rolling terrain that can require retaining walls and additional grading. This is one of the main things we assess during the site visit, which is why we won’t quote a project sight unseen.

Some properties on the outskirts of our Temecula service area run on well water or septic rather than municipal utilities. This doesn’t prevent a pool build, but it does affect site planning and sometimes requires coordination with your existing system. We’ll walk through this with you during the site visit if it applies to your property.

Yes. The inland valley climate doesn’t have a meaningful freeze season, and construction continues through most of the year. Summer heat can affect scheduling on certain phases, but it doesn’t stop the build the way winter weather does in colder climates.

Shotcrete gives you full design control, and it tends to suit the larger, varied lots you see across this market. It’s also the more established option here, with a much deeper subcontractor base than fiberglass. Fiberglass installs faster and needs less upkeep once it’s in, but don’t expect it to save you money. It typically runs $15,000 to $25,000 more than shotcrete in this market, mostly because of the shipping and crane work it takes to get the shell in place.

See the shotcrete and fiberglass section above for the full comparison, or take our Pool Type Quiz for a recommendation based on your situation.

It depends heavily on the property and neighborhood. In wine country adjacent areas and larger acreage properties, a well-built pool that complements the setting tends to add real value.

In more standard suburban developments around Murrieta and Temecula proper, it depends more on whether pools are common in that specific neighborhood. Build it because you’ll use it, and let the resale case follow from there.
