Gunite (Concrete)

Gunite is poured and shaped on your property, which means no two pools are identical. Shape, depth, finish, and every design detail are decided by you. It takes longer, typically 3 to 6 months from breaking ground to first swim, and the upfront cost is higher. But gunite holds its value well and lasts decades with proper maintenance. In a coastal market where outdoor living is central to how people use their homes, it’s the right call for most higher-end projects.

Fiberglass

A fiberglass pool arrives as a finished shell and drops into the excavated site in a single piece. The installation is faster. Some projects wrap up in 3 to 8 weeks, and the surface is smoother and easier to maintain than plaster.

In Corpus Christi’s heat, lower chemical demand and easier cleaning are genuine day-to-day advantages.

The limitation is shape. You’re choosing from what’s available in the manufacturer’s catalog rather than designing from scratch. For straightforward projects on flat lots where speed and low maintenance are the priority, fiberglass is a solid choice.

We handle all permitting for you, but plan for 2 to 20 weeks depending on current review volume. It’s the one phase we don’t have much control over.
Construction: Excavation comes first, and in Corpus Christi that sometimes means working through caliche before the shell can go in. From there it’s plumbing, shell installation, tile, decking, and equipment, each in sequence. We keep you updated throughout so you’re never left wondering where things stand.

Caliche excavation, when it’s needed, adds time regardless of season. If your lot has a significant caliche layer, we’ll tell you upfront and build that into the timeline estimate.

If you want to be swimming by a specific date, the best move is to start planning earlier than you think you need to. Permitting timelines are the least predictable part of the process.

It can be as hard as rock and requires specialized excavation equipment when it’s encountered. How deep it sits and how thick the layer is varies by property. It’s one of the main things we assess during the site visit, and one of the reasons a quote without a site visit isn’t worth much in this market.

Does salt air affect pool construction or materials near the bay?

It can. Salt air accelerates corrosion on certain metals and degrades some finishes faster than in inland markets. We account for this during the design phase by specifying equipment and materials rated for coastal environments. It’s worth raising during your consultation if your property is close to the water.
